Weekly Letter #23: March 9, 2020

Hello!

This week was been both good and hard.

We had zone conference about the Restoration (so good!), 2 exchanges (so good!), and my companionship is being changed in an emergency transfer (it’s been hard). As always there are lots of amazing people here I love so much (friends we're teaching, members, etc.). The people are so good!!

I’ll know more after p-day ends so I will write next week about what is happening and where I am.

I'm living the dream! Missions are fun! Haha! Thanks for the letters and emails!

Cheers
xxxxxxxxxx

I didn't feel like writing much today with everything that's been up in the air with my companionship so I have a little video clip instead:

Weekly Letter #17: January 27, 2020

Hello Hola Bonjour Ola!

The days here feel like years, and the weeks feel like seconds. I've said it before and I'll say it again, but time is the absolute weirdest thing in the world. It just doesn't exist here, and if it does, it has been messed with. Weird. What's weirdest is that I've been here for 4 months. How crazy is that?

This week has been absolutely amazing! We had our zone conference on Tuesday in Manchester (which is so far my favorite part of the mission even if I haven't served there), and all of the missionaries that went learned so much! One of the biggest things that we talked about that is applicable for you all, too, is a tool called "The Circle of Influence." Most leaders and problem-solvers use this tool pretty regularly without even knowing it, so if you want to get better at leading then this is for you!

Pretty much all it is, is these 2 circles, one inside the other. The one on the outside is "the circle of concern," and the one on the inside is "the circle of influence." What we as leaders (and healthy stable people) want to do is keep our circle of concern as small as possible, by only worrying about things that we can directly control. Leaders are able to shrink their circle of concern, and grow their circle of influence because they can recognize what is a waste of time, so they can use their time more wisely. Non-leaders are only able to shrink their circle of influence, because they waste time on things they can't control.

As many of you may know, I am a worrier. I stress about things that are out of my control. However, something I have been working on in my mission so far, is to stop stressing about things I can't control. Sounds easy, but it definitely isn't. Anyway, I would invite you to think about which circle is bigger in your life, and what you can do to make your circle of influence bigger.

Anywho, we also had exchanges this week with our STL's down in Manchester again, and it was so good! Every time I leave exchanges, I feel so motivated and like I have 1000 new ideas to go find new people to become our friends. Something else I would strongly invite you to do is to:

1) Send me an email with an idea that you have for what Sister Patea and I can do to find new friends.

2) Go read a chapter in Preach My Gospel, the missionary "tool guide" of sorts. If there is one thing I am sure of, it's that PMG isn't just for missionaries. Go give it a read, and prove me wrong if you want.

On Saturday, our district leader called everyone in the district, and told us that his mom had just sent him 2 boxes of Betty Crocker brownies. He then told us that whoever found the most friends on Sunday would get them. Because Sister Patea and I are both non-competitive missionaries, we decided we were going to beat the Elders and win the brownies. However, as we looked through our schedule for the day, we realized that we were going to have no time to go find, as we were mostly traveling on busses. To add to that frustration, every bus we got on was totally empty so we couldn't even talk to people there! We then went through our phones and contacted every single person that had given us a phone number and we made 4 friends in about an hour! The Betty Crocker brownies are ours!!!

Also, something I don't think I ever mentioned was that Sister Clark's and my friend, Phil, got baptized (like a month ago haha)! He was so happy and really has a strong testimony of the gospel. Yay Phil!

Funny story for the week: People here have about 2 reactions when they see us walking towards them: One is fear, and they try to avoid eye contact and get on the other side of the street as fast as they can. However, if we corner them or start talking to them, they'll stop and talk with us. The second reaction is disgust, anger, or dislike, and they are the ones that ignore us, or wave us off, or are mean.

This week we had the wonderful opportunity to go street contacting in town centre, and we started talking to this sort of blind lady who was super nice, and she started telling us all about her New Year's resolutions and how she was going to be nicer and more polite to people. We congratulated her on these goals and asked if she had any religious goals. She then got suspicious and asked us why we cared. We explained we were missionaries and immediately she brushed us off and started walking away mumbling under her breath. Now as a Christlike missionary, I of course called after her saying, "Bye! Good luck with your New Year's resolutions!" Ahhh. She deserved it. As a matter of fact, a security guard who was on break standing by us, listened to our entire exchange and died laughing when I said goodbye. This then allowed us to go over and talk to him about Christlike attributes and how we can develop them to be nicer and more patient people. He then took a card and gave us his number because to quote him, "You God-Squad people are funny." I'm doin’ the Lord's work, what can I say?

Also this morning, we scrubbed our shower that is literally covered in black mold/mildew. Disgusting. Even though everyone thinks that missionaries in England have it super posh, we don't. We sometimes only have cold water, or our heating turns off, or we develop cancer from mold spores. We are survivors. Forget about having a cobra in your house, or being stuck in your house for a couple weeks because of civil unrest. We have the hard life. #blackmold

Anywho, read the Book of Mormon. Feed the missionaries. Go watch Mary Poppins.

Love you all! Thanks for the emails and letters!

Weekly Letter #7: November 11, 2019

Hello everyone!

It has recently come to my attention that people love my letters so much, they send their favourite parts to my dad to tell them their thoughts. I am honoured. “Welcome to St.Helens, honey!”
#Lee

Also another random thought I had was that if 2 missionaries ever just show up on your front porch, then you should probably be nice to them, and maybe feed them and invite them into your home. Maybe even listen to them as they teach you about the Book of Mormon. Who knows?  It could probably change your life since it's changed mine.
#Lee pt. 2

Everyone, this week was really great but really hard!  Sometimes I forget life isn't just amazing all the time so that sucks. But honestly, life is great here and I'm loving it and learning lots. Also sorry I have absolutely zero time to write anyone else as this email literally just deleted itself 20 minutes before P-day ends. Hahahaha.

Also please forgive how terrible I look in most photos as it is typically pouring and crazy windy here so yikes. Honestly I don't care, but some of you might be terrified, so sorry! I promise I shower and stuff!

Guy Fawkes Day! A long time ago in a land far away, a man named Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the English Parliament. Unfortunately, he failed. Haha. But for some reason, they created a holiday to celebrate the fact he failed. So fun! Pretty much it's a lot of fireworks, bonfires, and burning scarecrows and just having a dandy time. For some reason, missionaries had to go in early to stay safe, so we decided to put up Christmas decorations and sing Christmas carols. We love that for us. Also, I realize that quite a few missionaries don't have housing that's quite as nice as mine, so I'm sorry. If it makes you feel better, we didn't have hot water in our kitchen tap this week. It was a trial.

Zone Conference was on Wednesday (woot woot)! Another great thing that made it awesome was the fact that it was in Chorley, literally on the MTC grounds right next to the temple. Not gonna lie, these last few weeks have been a little emotionally crazy so I prayed for the entire week that I would be able to talk to either one of my MTC teachers, or someone I knew from the MTC, just so I could talk to someone from my "normal" life (does that make any sense?).

All day long I kept praying and had my eyes peeled but there was nobody. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. It finally reached the end of zone conference and it was time for us to head home. To say that I was disappointed was a major understatement. We started leaving and right as we were about to turn to leave the MTC grounds, lo and behold, who turned around the other corner? Brother Casadibari, one of my MTC teachers who changed my life. It literally was the dumbest and shortest conversation ever, but it truly was such a tender mercy, and just a little confirmation that Heavenly Father is looking out for me. Made me so happy and I was so grateful. Heavenly Father loves us folks. He really does.

On Thursday, we had a tea appointment where they gave me 4 high quality slices of blood sausage at the end. Did I definitely go home and fry it up and eat it? Yup! I love it. So delicious. Reconstituted pig's blood? Who cares? Not me!

Saturday we were able to teach one of my favorite families in the world about how families can be together forever, not just until we die, and it really struck me at how blessed I am to know that. I can be with Heavenly Father and my family forever. How amazing is that? They also fed us this bread pudding thing with toffee sauce and whipped cream and it was so delicious. I promise I love them because they're amazing, not just because they feed us. I swear.

Yesterday was Remembrance Sunday, which is when everyone gathers together to remember all the troops that have fought and died in any war. We got to go down to the town square with everyone else and listen to the ceremony and it was quite touching. Thank you to the people who fight for our freedoms and liberties, who literally put their lives on the line for us.

Sorry this is super short, but read the Book of Mormon! Pray about it! Get your own testimony! Then write me because it makes my week (even if I can't respond I am so sorry it is so crazy here)!

love you all!
