Weekly Letter #62: February 23rd, 2021

Hello!

I decided to spend my time talking to my family today so this is going to be very brief.

This Wednesday is the final transfer of my mission! Six weeks to go. I really wouldn’t dwell on it much if not for the fact that every person who speaks/writes to me brings it up. So crazy and sad and surreal. Sister Cairns and I are staying together and that makes me happy. I also just received word that sometime in the next week or two we are going to be moved to a new flat/apartment!! WOOHOO!!! I’m so excited I might have done a happy dance. Goodbye spiders.

This week has been busy and, at times, overwhelming. People ask what we do as the Social Media/Tech Missionaries and I really can’t even begin to explain all that we do, but it’s busy and constant. Maybe I will attempt to explain it at some point, but I’m not making any promises. 

If you haven’t seen the latest video our mission posted, go check it out on our mission Facebook or Instagram page or on any of my social media pages. It’s SO good. (I have posted the video below also). That’s an example of some of what we do. 

Lockdown—still, yes, but some restrictions are going to start being eased soon. For example, we will be able to go sit on a park bench with another person. Haha.

Sorry this is so random and brief. Thanks to everyone who writes to me! Speaking of people writing to me, if you have sent an actual letter or package in the mail from the US and I haven’t responded, it’s probably because I haven’t received it yet. Just a couple days ago the Christmas card my parents mailed to me at the beginning of November arrived. Bless the mail system.

Things are great, I’m happy, and I love my mission and the people here. And I can’t even begin to express how much I love President and Sister Johnson. I LOVE THEM.

Weekly Letter #60: February 1st, 2021

Hello hello hello!
 
Wow it feels like every week I apologize for not writing the week prior, so instead of keeping with that trend, I’m just going to skip past that.

LOCKDOWN 

Ready for the surprise of your life? We are still in lockdown!! We're coming up on our one-year anniversary and wow, what a year it's been. For those of you who may be a bit confused, England is in a national lockdown where it's now illegal to go into a grocery store with more than 1 person per household. That's the level where we are. This isn't the Utah lockdown where it seems like you're living a normal life. This is a legitimate lockdown. Feel free to send flowers or money or chocolate or something to help my companion and me celebrate.

STRETFORD
Hahaha so remember how I said I was living in Manchester South? Yeah…that lasted for a week. A week into us living in Altrincham (al-treeng-um), President called us and told us we were moving back to Stretford, but in a different flat than we lived in before. So here we find ourselves in one of the weirdest (and probably the worst) flats I’ve ever lived in. It's a very lovely place with a lovely spider infestation in the kitchen and a lovely set of stairs that's steeper than a ladder.

SPIDERS
Hello everyone. For a quick recap, here's a fast history lesson about the spiders that reside in the lovely country of England. A long time ago in a land far away (England), a substance was created and it was named Miraclegro. This substance was used to help plants and other living organisms grow to gargantuan sizes. One day, some mean gross spiders came across some Miraclegro that someone had left outside and they started drinking it. Not surprisingly, they grew to humongous sizes and began populating England and terrorizing the country. The end. I hate English spiders. They are not posh. They are not cute. They are soul-sucking demons, and you can quote me on that.

HOME?
This week it was brought to my attention that I only have about 9 weeks left on my mission. How do I feel about that? Kind of weird, to be honest. However, we'll talk more about my thoughts about coming home as I get closer.

Life is good. I’m living the dream. The work moves forward. I love being a missionary and I love England. Feel free to write :)

Weekly Letter #48: September 8th, 2020

Hello all and welcome back to yet another week of Sister Pursglove's fun England adventures as a
missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ. What a wild world we live in.

Sorry for the couple of weeks when my updates weren't the best but life was ~crazy~ and so here we are now with lots of news!

TRANSFERS?
YAYAYAY folks I am staying in Lancaster!! I have only been here for the one transfer (or 6 weeks) so I'm glad that I'm able to stay longer because I LOVE it here!!! Unfortunately, Sister Weyland is being moved down to Rhyl in Wales.

COMPANION?
The good news is that I am getting a new companion (surprise) and I LOVE HER! Her name is Sister Walker and she's probably the most charitable and nicest and warmest person I've ever met. Since the first time I met her I've always wanted to be her companion. She is also a great cook so that's a major plus as well. I don't know if you can tell, but I'm SO PUMPED!!

FUNNY STORY?
Hahaha so I have 0 funny stories this week because unfortunately I had a migraine so for a good 70% of this week I was lying in a dark room with my eye mask on. Livin la vida.

SPIRITUAL STORY?
GO WATCH THE WHY I BELIEVE DEVOTIONAL!!!!! Especially the last half with President and Sister Johnson’s testimonies!! They're amazing and I love them so much!!!

Also something I've been thinking a lot about (because I hit a year in 2 weeks) is how grateful I am for this experience. I'm so grateful I have been able to meet the people I have and to have been able to serve in the areas I've been in. Each person, each companion, and each area has had a direct impact and has taught me different lessons. Whether that be being in Oldham for 7 months, being in St. Helens for 1.5 months, being over 2 areas virtually, or being moved to Barrow and Lancaster while in lockdown, there have been so many life lessons! I love being a missionary (even when it sucks and I roll my eyes more often than not) and I wouldn't trade these experiences I've had for anything.

Weekly Letter #24: March 16, 2020

Hello!

Welcome back, everyone. First of all, don’t worry, I'm still alive. Second, I can still do missionary work.

You might have already heard about or read about the First Presidency Message concerning the Coronavirus and the Church, but if you haven't, here's an update: We are not having any large gatherings of people or even any public events, until the coronavirus can be more under control. This means no church, no activities, for meetings try to video chat, and for baptisms only invite a few people. So with this update, how has it affected me? Well, that's a good question. Let me tell you (note, I'm going to be titling my sections so if you need to stop reading and take a break it's easier to come back, and also if you’re not interested in a section, you can skip it.):
